I have seen Buck Denver before but hadn't had a chance to watch it. When I had an offer to review "Buck Denver asks....Why do we call it Christmas?", I felt that I would really like to review this movie. I want my children to know the real meaning and reason of Christmas.
Buck Denver is made by the creator of VeggieTales, Phi Vischer. My daughter loves VeggieTales so I was hoping that she would like Buck Denver as well.
When I was in Thailand, our missionary friend recorded an interview for Thai people asking them what they thought Christmas was all about. Many didn't know what it was. Some people thought it is North American's new year. Some people thought it was a day that Jesus was crucified.
To some, it is a little bit confusing. Despite Christmas being such a big holiday. But what is it really about?
This DVD will help children understand about Christmas. Phil found when he was researching for this film that many of Christmas traditions got their start from and ultimately point back to Jesus in some way. (Including Santa.)
It is great that the story shows how all these traditions fit together and how they all point to Jesus.
This DVD contains the following topics:
-Where do we get the word Christmas?
-When was Jesus born?
-What do Christmas trees have to do with Jesus?
-Who is St. Nicholas?
-What is Hanukkah?
-Who is Emmanuel?
-Luke 2 Story
Check out the trailer here.
This is a great DVD to get for your children for Christmas or in preparation for the Christmas season. It is an easy way to get them to understand everything about Christmas and understand the reason for our traditions and facts surrounding Christmas. I am really pleased to recommend this DVD as a Christmas gift.
