Limiting the amount of screen time for my children is always something I am aware of. Just a few weeks ago, I had a conversation with my sister-in-law, who works for school district about what  her thoughts were about children and their screen time. I want my kids to know and understand how to use technology because it is important part of our lives nowadays. Although I don't want my children to spend all their time in front of TV or tablets.

Although I do want them to be able to participate in our technology based world. My sister-in-law believes we can't take away the technology. Schools use screen time to teach our child. There are many programs and apps that are wonderful and assist children in learning. These can assist in making learning easier, faster and fun. Blocking them from using these technology, can put your child behind as well.

But what is too much?

Gary Chapman and Arlene Pellicane, the author of "The 5 Love Languages" have some advice for you.

Growing up social : raising relational kids in a screen-driven world

Many parents are facing the problem of lacking of family time but don't know what to do. This book share with you some ideas to resolve the problems and help you to put them into practice.

There are 5 chapters in the book that will help parents. They outline five A+ skills that your child needs to develop in order to succeed in life and love: Affection, appreciation, anger management, apology and attention.

I am a big fan of "The 5 Love Language" so I was very interested in this book as well. I like that it is very easy to read. It gives me some ideas to help me succeed as a parent and hold to my philosophy of not too much technology when I am temped to use TV to keep my children nice and quiet and give me an opportunity to get somethings done.

Apart from the 5 A+ skills, we get some answers to those nagging questions that many parents have expressed about the impact of screen time on family life.

I started to read this book and couldn't put it down. I found myself reading through chapter in really such a short period of time. It is so very interesting.

If you are concerned about how much screen time is safe for your children or are looking to make a change in your family in this area, you should grab this book. You won't regret it.

  1. I really want to know how much screen time is acceptable at the different ages. It worries me how the kids have gone from being just "tech" savvy to just spending all their social lives in front of the screen. I have four kids of varying ages and I am sure that although we are aware of what is going on, maybe we are letting them spend too much time.

  3. My children are just starting to get interested in using computers and tablets, so I would love to read this book in preparation for that. I think that limiting screen time is definitely something I want to do but I would love some guidelines. I don't want to prohibit the use of devices completely, since technology is a big part of our lives now - I think completely banning my kids from it will put them at a disadvantage. So a balance is what I am looking for.

  4. I would love to see what this book says about handling screen time. We have 6 kids and as they get older, they;re spending more time with electronics. I know they need to be up on technology since it's such a huge part of our world now but at the same time, I don't want ti to take over. I also want to keep them safe. I'd like to see what the book says is appropriate for each age.
