World Prematurity Day November 17th #NoBabyUnhugged

Earlier this year, I wrote a post about No baby unhugged program with Huggies Hug Box. With the same program, I wanted to share more since today is World Prematurity Day. To start with, this program directly supports NICUs in providing premature babies with the hugs they need to thrive. As I mentioned in the other post, studies have shown skin-to-skin has numerous health benefits for all babies, including improved oxygen levels and pain tolerance, stabilized body temperatures, improved sleep, brain development and more. For premature babies, skin-to-skin also positively influences their short-term and long-term development.

My twin nieces were born premature. Both of them had to stay in NICU for a little over than a month. They were very tiny. I remembered when I went to visit them. I had to make sure we were well and clean our hands and clothes. My sister-in-law used skin-to-skin therapy with them often. Now that they are 4 years old, they are big and healthy, full of energy. I am glad that Huggies started a very important program like this to support babies that need extra love.

  1. I have been hearing for several years, how important being held is for pre-term babies. This sounds like a great program.
