I had a chance to review a book call "The Life we never expected" written by Andrew & Rachel Wilson. I jumped right in since I learned that it is a book about parenting children with Special needs. Many of you probably know that I have a son with Down Syndrome. All of us who have special needs kid(s) understand what we are experiencing. We love them to bits and we also take a deep breath quite often.
Rachel and Andrew have 2 Special needs children together. I like how they said having special needs is kind of like being given an orange. While everybody got an orange chocolate dessert, we got an orange! How we saw everyone got an orange chocolate, we assume that we probably get a chocolate too. Nothing wrong with oranges. They are tasty and sweet. But it is not what we expected.
Since I started reading this book, I just couldn't put it down. This is just like what I want to explain to everyone but I just didn't know how. I laughed, I cried, I smiled and said yes to the book. Yes, we didn't plan for a special needs child, and we didn't anticipate them. Our children are gifts. But yes, I admit that we didn't want our son to have Down Syndrome or anything that different from other kids. I just want a healthy child.
The feeling has become less acute over time. We appreciate the wonders of tangy sweet citrus.
The book has separate into 5 cycles. Each cycle talk about weeping, worshiping, waiting, witnessing and breathe. I found it is a good reminder to me to keep my eyes on God. I can't do all things by myself but I can do it with Him.
I would recommend this book to whom experiencing special needs people in your life. We cannot forget that God is in control. He promises us peach and joy, even in the midst of trials. It is also will make a great gift for someone who is starting this journey. Yes, everyone hopes and expects to have a healthy child, unfortunately that isn't always the case which is sad. I wish everybody could have healthy children. This sounds like a very nice book and will hopefully help parents of special needs children.
